I was reading a post today about the kingdom songs we sang as JW's.
by booker-t ini was thinking about the kingdom songs we sang as jw's and was wondering about you posters out there that are ex-jw's or still jw's what was you all time favorite "kingdom song" or what was you all time horrible song that we sang from both songbooks (1966 songbook or the later songbook made in 1984 sing praises to jehovah.
my favorite song was song #119 in the 1966 songbook "keep your eyes on the prize".
i like this song because it made me feel that armaggeddon was coming fast and the "new system" would be here to give me the prize.

I suppose that my favorite was "Were Jehovah's Witness" for some unknown reason. Probably because I knew most of the lyrics. As I entered adolescence my music taste changed significantly. I began to realize just how bad these songs were as far as quality is concerned.
I have an aunt who lives in MI and we would see her about once a year. When at her KH she would really belt them out, let me tell you. She had a pretty good voice too it was just kind of funny to me to see someone being so enthustiac about those songs. No one at my KH could hold a tune to save their life (myself included). I stoped singing them all togeather around the age of 14 +/-.

HALLOWEEN! What's cool or fun about celebrating?
by Now What? inthis is my first halloween as a free man .
so i looked up the word halloween and discovered some really cool things.
for instance, the word comes from "all hallows eve", because of being the night before the feast of martyrs (all saints day).

I love Halloween. I dont go overboard with decorations or any thing like that because my budget is limited. I love carving up the pumpkins though. My first halloween was about five years ago and my newborn son was too little to take out so I sat and gave out candy to the kids. I had so much fun that year talking to all the kids and asking them what kind of tricks they would be performing. The following years were a little more work because I'm actually out making the rounds with my kids. This year my five year old is Captain Hook, my two year old son is Peter Pan, and my two year old daughter is Tinker Bell.
My favorite part (besides the candy that my kids collect for me, LOL) is the pumpkin carving. I have a blast carving them and let me tell you, I'm pretty damn good.

Weird Dream.
by RichieRich inplease allow me to preface the following by saying, i'm not a dreamer.
i do have aspirations, and those kinds of dreams, but i don't really have literal dreams.
occasionally, my sleep is permeated by the thought of a beautiful young woman, or a big ole pickup sitting in my driveway.

Comon Richie! You can do better than that. I thought you were going to have me rolling on the floor laughing or something like that. But seriously, as others have mentioned, you mind is just working through the various stimuli of your conscience experience.

How the Internet Means 'The End' for Apostates and Opposers of the Society
by slimboyfat inthe received wisdom is that the internet has dramatically damaged the ability of the watchtower society to gain and retain followers.
there was a very eloquent article to that effect written some time ago by a commentator who attempted to buttress his argument with reference to the postmodern condition and the breakdown of metanarratives in todays secular society, nay, even the come-back for enlightenment notions of truth.
in the 1970/80s there were major challenges to the watchtowers theology (great crowd in heaven) and chronology (1914) in norway, alberta canada, dublin ireland and in the newyork bethel itself: but the damage caused by those involved in the dissent was limited because knowledge was dispersed merely through personal contact and minimal use of obscure publications that seldom met the eyes of witnesses innocent of the watchtowers doctrinal and chronological vacillations in any case.

Hi slimboyfat. I enjoyed your initial post and thought it was well written but as most of the responding posters feel, I disagree. Do you have any statistics to support your theory? If your going to make claims that seem contrary to the common knowledge of this forum then your going to have to offer facts that support your beliefs.
Thanks for the graph Kid-A.

Poor kid was probably never touched by a woman before. The guy pulled a "Forest Gump" right there in front of you and now we're all making fun of the guy.

Divided Household
by pratt1 ini grew up in a "divided household" and i was wondering how many of you had similar experiences to mine.. 1. i was always viewed as fatherless child as a kid.
i wasn't, i had a very involved father, however he was an unbeliever.. 2. i always felt the my decisions in life ultimately meant that i was chosing one parent over the other.
going to college i chose dad over mom.

My mother used to guilt trip me a lot to get me to try and force my dad into coming back to meetings.
You know, I guess I really didn't want my dad to become a witness. I guess I just knew that the JW rules and regulations would be inforced all that much more if he was. My mother too would use guilt trips to try to manipulate us kids into asking him to join us at the meetings.

My father is not a witness. My mother always tried to get him to come to memorial and other special meetings. Occasionally he would reluctantly come with us. My father pretty much supported my mother in her decision to raise us kids as JW's. There was never really a feeling of choosing one parent over another.
I think that the local KH, especially the elders viewed me as fatherless. That didn't really motivate them to take me under their wings or any thing like that though.
I too agree, that having an unbelieving father made it much easier to leave.

Oh man, tetra! I can't belive that you posted those lyrics. Im in flash back city right now listening to all the mono-tone dubs singing that song in my memory. Absolutly terrible. I think I'm going to be sick.
